With the nib's fascinating design, the tiniest bit of pressure allows ink to flow from the dip pen. I was decent at applying more pressure to the downstrokes in achieving the darker, thicker lines but have more practice ahead of me in making the light upstrokes lighter.
The instructor's spirit and this particular part of the workshop really embodied the creative play I'm chasing after these days. At the end of our workshop, we dripped water on thick watercolor paper, dropping and dragging ink through it. There was no way to "mess it up"; purely to explore how the ink interacts with the water.
It was a ton of fun, and I now have a starter kit of supplies and practice worksheets to play with!
